Overview

MuCEM (Musée des Civilisations de l'Europe et de la Méditerranée) is a stunning contemporary museum that opened in 2013 when Marseille was European Capital of Culture. Designed by architect Rudy Ricciotti, the building is wrapped in a latticed concrete shell that filters Mediterranean light and connects via a dramatic footbridge to the 17th-century Fort Saint-Jean. Together they explore Mediterranean cultures through innovative exhibitions. Located beside the Old Port, it's essential to any Marseille visit.
