About Accademia

The Galleria dell'Accademia exists for one primary reason: to house Michelangelo's David, the world's most famous sculpture. Carved from a single block of Carrara marble 1501-1504, this 17-foot masterpiece of Renaissance art represents the pinnacle of human form in sculpture. The gallery also contains Michelangelo's unfinished "Prisoners" emerging from marble. Pair this stop with the Florence guide and the wider Italy overview.
