Overview
The Centre Pompidou (Beaubourg) is one of the world's most important modern and contemporary art museums, housed in a building as revolutionary as its contents. Designed by Renzo Piano and Richard Rogers and opened in 1977, the "inside-out" structure places all utilities - escalators, pipes, ventilation - on the exterior, color-coded by function (blue for air, green for water, yellow for electricity, red for circulation). This frees the interior for flexible gallery space housing over 100,000 works from Picasso, Matisse, and Kandinsky to contemporary installations. The rooftop offers stunning views over Paris and the nearby Notre-Dame.
