Overview
Elbphilharmonie (Elbe Philharmonic Hall), opened in 2017 after a decade of construction, is Hamburg's iconic wave-shaped concert hall built atop a 1960s warehouse in HafenCity. Designed by Herzog & de Meuron, the €866 million building features crystalline glass architecture, a 2,100-seat Grand Hall with "vineyard" seating and world-renowned acoustics, and a public Plaza viewing platform 37 meters above the harbor offering 360-degree city and port views - accessible free to all.
Seating Guide
Grand Hall's "vineyard" seating surrounds the stage on all sides, meaning no seat is more than 30 meters from the conductor. 10,000 individually shaped gypsum acoustic panels line the walls, designed by acoustician Yasuhisa Toyota. The Kleine Saal (Recital Hall) seats 550 people in a more intimate shoebox layout. Book months ahead for popular performances, or try last-minute €15 standing spots for sold-out shows.
